THE GREAT DISTRICT COUNCIL

The District of Canneti was freely established by a group of people who resolved to encourage - in total friendship and far from any form of discrimination - all the residents of the District and its sympathizers to exploit local traditions - first of all the art of flag-waving, mediaeval drums, and archery - and of course the social life of the District itself. In these first forty years the Statute has undergone some small changes; the last in 1999, to adapt to the different necessities of life in the District, but the purpose and aims are still those of the beginning. Thus the District is adimistered by the Great Council, which is the supreme decisional body; it is made up of all those who want to pursue the aim of the District, in the amplest state of democracy possible. Main duty of the Council is to elect the Captain annualy, and direct and supervise his work. The Captain is the only responsible of every activity of the District and of representing the District publicly. The Captain nominates his collaborators (Deputy Captain, Secretary, and Treasurer) directly, and he submits his nominees to the vote of the Great Council. The latter also appoints the Priors, honorary title which is awarded "ad vitam" to all those who deserve distinction for their actions in favour of the District; they represent the spirit and the values of the Distrct and they are depositaries of the History and the Statute, symbol of the everlasting glory of the "Blue-and-White Dragon of Canneti". This is how the above mentioned Bodies are formed today:
